Country needs a gold for superb Oly campaign: Bhutia

Kolkata: Indian football icon Bhaichung Bhutia on Sunday said the country desperately needed to win a gold to cap a superb run at the ongoing London Olympics.

"The performance has been outstanding. We just need to win a gold medal now," Bhutia told reporters here today. The former India captain also heaped praise on Vijay Kumar, Saina Nehwal and Gagan Narang for earning one silver and two bronze medals respectively. "I saw Vijay, Saina and Gagan winning medals. It`s remarkable to achieve success at the highest level," he added. Army shooter Vijay Kumar clinched a silver in the men`s 25m rapid fire event after Gagan Narang had opened India`s account with a bronze in 10m air rifle. Ace shuttler Saina yesterday created history by becoming the first Indian to win an Olympic Games bronze medal in badminton. PTI
