Olympics shooting: Joydeep Karmakar misses bronze; finishes 4th

India’s Joydeep Karmakar is all set to starts proceedings in the Men`s 50m Rifle Prone final.

London: Indian shooter Joydeep Karmakar failed to win a bronze medal as he finished 4th in Men's 50m Rifle Prone event on Friday.
Sergei Martynov of Belarus won the gold while Lionel Cox of Belgium and Rajmond Debevec of Slovenia won silver and bronze, respectively. Karmakar shot well in the finals. From number 7 in the qualification round he climbed up to number 4. But he could not dislodge the top three and finished at the 4th. But anyway it was a valient effort by the Bengal shooter. The final standing 1. MARTYNOV Sergei (Belarus) 2. COX Lionel (Belgium) 3. DEBEVEC Rajmond (Slovenia) 4. Joydeep Karmakar (India) 5. BRODMEIER Daniel (Germany) 6. HAN Jinseop (Republic of Korea) 7. DURKOVIC Bojan (Croatia) 8. CAMPRIANI Niccolo (Italy) Good start Karmakar has started really well. Tremendous shooting by him. He is at the 4th place after the end of 6th series. India’s Joydeep Karmakar has started proceedings in the Men`s 50m Rifle Prone final. Qualification Round Joydeep Karmakar, who was tied joint 4th with the nine more shooters, qualified for the final. He shot 51.6 in the shoot-off to finish seventh best. The biggest disappointment, however, is that Gagan Narang has crashed out of the event after finishing at 18th. Sergei Martynov finished at the top in the qualifying with a score of 600 out of 600. He has equalled the world record. All the shooters would carry their qualifying points.
