The 25-year-old Russian, seeded third, sealed a 6-2, 6-0 win In just over an hour. Peer, ranked 49 in the world, broke her opponent`s serve in the first game of the match, but was demolished in the rest of the set as Sharapova racked up 22 winners to Peer`s two in the set as a whole. Sharapova, who carried the Russian flag at Friday`s opening ceremony, will play either Britain`s Laura Robson or Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in the next round. (IANS)
