About 4,000 rooms ready for 2010 Commonwealth Games

Gearing up for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, hotel promoters in the National Capital Region (NCR) have completed construction of more than 40 per cent of rooms required during the mega-sporting event.

New Delhi: Gearing up for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, hotel promoters in the National Capital Region (NCR) have completed construction of more than 40 per cent of rooms required during the mega-sporting event.
There was a target of making available 9,597 rooms during the mega-event in the capital and the NCR region - Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad."Of the 9,597 rooms, construction of 3,952 rooms have been completed," a senior Tourism Ministry official said. It is estimated that an additional 30,000 rooms in Delhi and the NCR zone would be required to cater to the demand during the Games. Apart from hotel rooms, about 11,000 rooms will be made available from the approved guest houses whose services are being upgraded and the staff is being trained under the ministry`s scheme of capacity building for service providers. About 3,000 rooms would be made available under the bed and breakfast scheme. Accommodation would also be provided in as many as 5,500 DDA flats in Vasant Kunj and Jasola areas. The Ministry has reviewed the progress of various hotel projects and other accommodations coming up for the Games in its Task Force meeting. Bureau Report
