Arizona Cardinals' rookie receiver shot outside home

Arizona Cardinals rookie receiver Damond Powell`s NFL ambitions were in limbo Saturday after he was shot outside his home in Toledo, Ohio.

Powell was shot in the face on Friday night, suffering injuries that police said did not appear to be life-threatening.

The 22-year-old, wo was signed by the Cardinals as a free agent in May, was sitting in a car with friends in the driveway of his home when he was shot shortly after 8 p.m., Toledo police said.

Witnesses said shots came from a car and reported seeing three men wearing masks in a gold-colored vehicle.

"We are aware that Damond Powell was the victim of a shooting last night in Toledo, where he remains hospitalized," the Cardinals said in a statement.

"We have been in communication with his family to offer whatever support and resources we can provide. We will continue to monitor and provide updates as appropriate."
