Arunachal bag 16 medals in National Youth Weightlifting

Takio Yana clinched three more gold medals to help Arunachal Pradesh top the medal tally with 16 medals including six gold, seven silver and three bronze, on the final day of the seventh National Youth Weightlifting championship held at Nirjuli.

Yana won the gold in 58 kg (girls) category by lifting 64 kg in snatch, 85 kg in clean & jerk and 149 kg in total. Orissa finished second with six gold, six silver and three bronze followed by Uttarakhand with six gold, Andhra Pradesh (five gold, four silver and five bronze), West Bengal (5 gold and a silver), Manipur (4 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze), Madhya Pradesh (4 gold and 2 silver), Delhi (3 gold) and Bihar with a gold medal. In 63 kg (girls) category, Subhasmita Mohanty of Orissa won three medals by lifting 61 kg (silver) in snatch, 78 kg (gold) in clean and jerk and 139 kg (gold) in total. Putul Sarkar from Bihar also won three medals by lifting 62 kg (gold) in snatch, 76 kg (silver) in clean & jerk and 138 kg (silver) in total in the same category while Pompi Sarkar of Assam won a bronze medal in snatch by lifting 58 kg and P S Hringtun Anal (Manipur) also won a bronze in clean and jerk by lifting 65 kg along with Muneera M S from Kerala clinching a bronze medal in total by lifting 111 kg. In 69 kg (girls) category, Preeti Bisht of Uttarakhand won three medals by lifting 68 kg (gold) in snatch, 88 kg (gold) in clean and jerk and 156 kg (gold) in total. Y M Nafisa from Manipur bagged three medals by lifting 63 kg (silver) in snatch, 81 kg (silver) in clean and jerk and 144 kg (silver) in total. Swapna Priya Baruah of Assam also won three medals by lifting 62 kg (bronze) in snatch, 72 kg (bronze) in clean & jerk and 134 kg (bronze) in total. In the plus 690 category (girls), M Ooha Sai of Andhra Pradesh won three medals by lifting 54 kg (gold) in snatch, 70 kg (gold) in clean and jerk and 124 kg (gold) in total. Lalsangmawii from Mizoram also bagged three medals by lifting 53 kg (silver) in snatch, 60 kg (silver) in clean and jerk and 113 kg (silver) in total, while Kalpana Mohanty of Orissa clinched three medals in the same category by lifting 48 kg (bronze) in snatch, 58 kg (bronze) in clean and jerk and 106 kg (bronze) in total. Three gold medals in 85 kg category boys competition went to Rajpal Siddhu of Uttarakhand, who lifted 115 kg in snatch, 140 kg in clean and jerk and 255 kg in total. Shivam Saini of Uttar Pradesh won three medals by lifting 104 kg (bronze) in snatch, 126 kg (silver) in clean and jerk and 230 kg (silver) in total. Bhupinder Singh of Chandigarh won a silver medal in the same category in snatch by lifting 105 kg, while S Thanominal of Manipur and S Anbalagan of Puducherry bagged one bronze each by lifting 117 kg in clean and jerk and 212 kg in total respectively. In 94 kg (boys) category, Praveen Sharma of Madhya Pradesh bagged three gold medals by lifting 115 kg in snatch, 140 kg in clean and jerk and 255 kg in total. Shivam Saini from Uttar Pradesh clinched three medals by lifting 104 kg (bronze) in snatch, 126 kg (silver) in clean and jerk and 230 kg (silver) in total. Bhupinder Singh of Chandigarh and S Thanominlal Kom of Manipur won silver and bronze in the same category. Manipur bagged the award of team champion in both boys and girls categories with 665 and 709 points respectively, while Neeraj Sharma of Delhi adjudged the best lifter in boys category and Chandrika Tarafdar of West Bengal as the best lifter in girls category. The 48th junior men and women weightlifting championship will begin at the same venue from November 27. PTI
