National record holder Babu Bhai of Services outwalked 23 competitors to win Gold medal in the grueling 20-km walk event at the 49th Open National Athletics championships here today.

grueling 20-km walk event at the 49th Open National Athletics championships here today. Babu, who holds the national record of 1::18:41 created in Berlin, clocked 1::27:43.00 on the second day of the meet. K Somendra Singh did proud to hosts Madhya Pradesh by claiming silver medal as he clocked 1::30:03.00, while Chandigarh`s Baljinder Singh secured third place by covering the distance in 1::30:18.00. B G Nagraj of Railways won the 100m gold medal of this meet, emerging the fastest runner. He touched the tape in 10.55 seconds to pocket the gold, ahead of Ritesh Anand, who clocked 10.57 sec and S Sathya, who finished with 10.59 sec. Nagraj gave the season`s best performance after recovering from the injury, he got in Ist Indian Grand Prix held in Cochin. "I have to win the Gold to prove myself because I was injured and it turned into the season best" said Nagraj after winning the race. Railway has fielded a strong contingent in this meet and they are on top of the medal tally with 8 golds. Bureau Report
