New Delhi: With almost a year to go for the Commonwealth Games, two sports projects in East Delhi have hit
a roadblock as an art body has refused to approve the set of drawings submitted to it. Archery and table tennis stadiums, to be constructed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) at the Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar, have filed to get the nod of the Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC) as there was inconsistency in the set of drawings submitted to it. In a recent meeting early this month, the Commission members found that the DDA had failed to submit adequate plans to get the approval for archery and table tennis venues. "The pedestrian movement plan of the overall complex including archery venue needed to be submitted to the Commission," it noted. Also, the DUAC said in archery venue too, the project proponent had failed to adhere to the Commissions` observations in its maps submitted at the meeting. DUAC had a few days back refused permission to the DDA`s two indoor stadiums for squash and badminton for Commonwealth Games at Sri Fort complex in South Delhi citing lack of norms. Both the sports complexes will also be used as training venues. In case of the Yamuna sports complex, the facilities will be redeveloped for aquatics, archery training, lawn bowling, rhythmic gymnastics and hockey training. Bureau Report
