Five Indians in second round of World Junior Squash C`ships

New Delhi: Indian racqueters made a confident start to their campaign at the World Junior Men`s Squash Championships with five players progressing to the second round of the event being staged for the first time at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha.

Deepak Mishra, Vivek Dinodia, Abhishek Pradhan, Mahesh Mangaonkar, Vrishab Kotian advanced to the next round while Kush Kumar crashed out of the tournament on the opening day yesterday.

The only seeded Indians in the championship, Mahesh got a bye in the first round while Abhishek recieved a walkover after his opponent failed to turn up for the match.

Deepak defeated Kuwait`s Yousif Ali 11-4 11-6 12-10 in 35 minutes while Vivek beat Blessing Muhwate of Zimbabwe 11-1 11-7 11-1 in a 19 minute encounter.

Vrishab overcame the challenge of Taiki Kaido of Japan 11-3 11-4 11-4 in 20 minutes to join his other teammates in the next round.

However, Kush was not so lucky as the Indian lost 3-11 5-11 3-11 to Syed Hamzah Shah Bukhari of Pakistan.

In the second round, Mahesh, seeded 5-8, will meet Canada`s Zachary Leman, Abhishek (9-16) faces Manuel Wanner of Switzerland and Vrishab takes on Faisal Hassan of Zimbabwe.

Deepak will lock horns against England`s Richie Fallows while Vivek will be up against Japan`s Ryosei Kobayashi.
