India win 6 silver, 1 bronze in Asian Dragon Boat Race

Mumbai: Indian oarsmen and women did exteremly well at the Asian Dragon Boat Championships by winning medals in all seven races they competed in.
The Indians won six silver medals and a bronze in the championships held among 12 continental nations on February 7 and 8 in Pattaya, according to team`s assistant coach A S Abilash.
India won silver medals in races held in 100m, 500m, and 2,000m categories, where they stood second behind champions and hosts Thailand.
The Indian squad members also finished second in the gender mixed race (behind winners Philippines), five paddlers race (behind winners Indonesia) and five paddlers mixed race (behind Indonesia).
The bronze for India came in the Open men`s 500m race when they finished third behind winners Thailand and runners- up Philippines in the championships organised by the Rowing and Canoeing Association of Thailand (RCAT) under the auspices of the Asian Canoe Confederation (ACC).
Oar wielders from Macao, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, The Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, China and Thailand took part in the championships.
Dragon Boat Racing has now been included in the Asian Games programme.
