Johannesburg: The Italian town of Gemona, where South African murder-accused Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius used to train has cancelled a sponsorship deal with him, according to a report on Sunday.
Mayor of the town, Paolo Urbani said that his contract was suspended after the athlete was arrested for the alleged murder of his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. In November, the town had signed a five-year sponsorship deal with Pistorius, worth USD 19,500 per year. "The contract with Oscar is suspended. We are not in a hurry to find a new ambassador," Urbani said. Pistorius had been appointed as ambassador for the town’s sports programme in 2011.
