SAI suspends official for producing fake degree to get promotion: Report

New Delhi: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) suspended an official for producing a fraudulent university degree.

According to a report published in Hindustan Times newspaper, SAI assistant director Dinesh Chandra Tiwari, who has a graduation degree from a fake university as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) list, has put the government’s sports body in an uncomfortable position.

The newspaper further reported that Tiwari, who was recently promoted to assistant director and was posted at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, is a 1988 commerce graduate from Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya in Jagatpuri (Delhi).

An internal inquiry was conducted by the officials after Tiwari's promotion. SAI director-coordination SC Sharma submitted this probe report on Wednesday, follwing which director general Injeti Srinivas issued a suspension order for Tiwari until further inquiry.

Even though Tiwary is on leave and is yet to receive the suspension order, it will come into effect from the day it was issued.
