Cricket tournament for disabled starts in Vadodara
Vadodara: Indian Disabled Premier League (IDPL), a tournament for the physically challenged modelled on the IPL, has started at Gujarat Refinery Cricket Stadium here.
AW Siddiq, Secretary General, Indian Cricket Federation for the Disabled, told reporters that 12 teams from different parts of the country, including last year`s champion West Bengal and runner-up Maharashtra, are taking part in the three-day tournament that began yesterday.
The purpose behind organising IDPL was to encourage the disabled players, he said.
Public sector units such as Indian Oil, ONGC, SAIL, and State Bank of India have sponsored the event. A special ball made of synthetic material and weighing just 100 grams has been designed for the event, whose winner will get Rs 1.25 lakh and the runner-up Rs 80,000.
