New Zealand Open: Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponappa lose as India's campaign ends

New Delhi: India's campaign ended at the New Zealand Open badminton tournament in Auckland, with women's doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa suffered defeat in straight sets to bow out of the USD 120,000 Grand Prix Gold event here.

Jwala and Ashwini, saw themselves fighting hard in the opening game, but went down in a close affair. In the second set, they were ripped apart to bow out. They lost the tie 22-24 8-21 against the local combo of Setyana Mapasa and Gronya Somerville in the women's doubles competition.

Meanwhile, men's doubles sixth seeds Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy, who had won the Mexico Open last December, lost 10-21 20-22 to second seeded Korean pair of Ko Sung Hyun and Shin Baek Cheol here.
