The Australian men's hockey team on Tuesday thrashed India 4-0 in the opening match of the four-match Test series at the Perth Hockey Stadium.

New Delhi: The Australian men's hockey team on Tuesday thrashed India 4-0 in the opening match of the four-match Test series at the Perth Hockey Stadium.

Drag-flicker Jeremy Hayward, Jacob Whetton and Glenn Simpson were among the goal scorers. Hayward opened the scoring for Australia in the 15th minute of the game and then he find the net for the second time in 34th minute. However, Whetton netted the ball in 30th minute and Simpson in the 39th minute for the world champions, in the lop-sided affair.

Though, both the teams started aggressively but it was Australia who capitalised on the first opportunity. Australia played according to their reputation and hardly gave India any real chance of scoring. Speed with which the Aussies were playing was tremendous.  

As the match progressed India found the going tougher as Australia stepped up the pressure and kept scoring goals at regular intervals.

Under coach Terry Walsh Indian team will play its next match on Wednesday.
