New Delhi: Germany's Angelique Kerber who stunned World No. 1 Serena Williams at the Australian Open on Saturday, stated that being a Grand Slam champion is crazy.

She became the first German after Steffi Graf to win a Grand Slam title. She beat Serena 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at the Rod Laver Arena. 

It was also her maiden title as she will rise up to No. 2 in the WTA Rankings after this.

Kerber said she worked hard for this win and it is a crazy feeling.

“I have worked hard for this win. Being a Grand Slam champion is crazy, said the German.

Kerber also added that she took her chances and the dream of winning a Slam came true.

“I took my chances and my dream of winning a Grand Slam has come true.” She also lauded Serena Williams saying she is an inspiration for so many people.
