Madrid: Tomas Berdych defeated Juan Martin del Potro 7-6 7-6 in the controversy blue clay court to reach the finals of the Madrid Open.
This was the Czech’ s third victory against the Argentine in six clashes. The World no. 7 and seeded sixth Berdych set down 15 aces in the match hitting 41 winners as opposed to the big Argentine’s 30.
Both power hitters displayed immense hitting prowess and good baseline play matching each other shots literally at each point.
Berdych will now be facing the winner of Federer- Tipsarevic match. The Serb had defeated compatriot and No.1 Novak Djokovic in the quarters.
After the match Djokovic had said “I won`t be here next year if this clay stays”. Even Rafa Nadal vented out his reservations regarding the blue court stating he wouldn`t return unless the tournament reverts to red clay.
