New Delhi: She's not the first player to do an impromptu hair cut during the course of a match, but on Monday Svetlana Kuznetsova became an Internet sensation thanks to her barber routine in the WTA Finals opener at Singapore.

The evergreen Russian tennis star, who only qualified for the elite eight-woman tournament on Saturday after winning the Kremlin Cup, gave herself an impromptu haircut at the changeover while trailing 1-2 her Polish opponent Agnieszka Radwanska.

The 31-year-old Russian then asked the umpire for a pair of scissors, and soon she hacked off major portion of her ponytail to the amusement everyone.

She went onto win the match 7-5, 1-6, 7-5, and the video became viral. After the match, she wrote in an Instagram message, “Sometimes you gotta do it not by best hairdressers and not at [the] best time.”

But defending champion Radwanska said matter of factly, "Good thing she didn't cut her anything else. I think hair is not very important."

Meanwhile, the WTA said, it's "something you don’t see every day".

Interestingly, British number one Andy Murray the same thing last season's ATP Finals, during his match against Rafael Nadal.
