New Delhi: Leander Paes and Andre Begemann suffered a 6-2, 5-7, 4-6 loss against Stephane Robert-Dudi Sela in opening round of men's doubles at US Open 2016.

The Indo-German pair started off the proceedings well as they clinched the first set 6-2 in their favour in no time.

However, the second set proved to be a close one as the Stephane Robert-Dudi Sela pair bounced back to win it.

Even in the third set, Paes and Begemann were leading 5-4, but failed to capitalise on the serve and their opponent not only broke the serve but also went on to win the set and the match.

Robert and Sela will now take on Lukasz Kubot of Poland and Alexander Peya of Austria in the second round.

The 12th seeded Polish-Austrian team defeated Americans Eric Quigley and Nicolas Meister 7-6, 6-1 in their opening round match.
