Italy`s 43rd-ranked Roberta Vinci advanced to her first Grand Slam semi-final by defeating France`s 40th-ranked Kristina Mladenovic 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 Tuesday at the US Open.
Vinci will next face the winner of a later match between world number one Serena Williams, trying to complete the first calendar Grand Slam since 1988, and her older sister Venus Williams, seeking her eighth Grand Slam title.
