Wimbledon: After Kvitova’s match, it was the seven-time French Open winner Rafael Nadal who came on the Centre Court bidding for his third Wimbledon and 12th grand slam title. Rafa was trailing 0-4 in the first set against Thomaz Bellucci before getting back to the rhythm and defeating the Brazilian 7-6, 6-2, 6-3. Mardy Fish of the United States served 24 aces and struggled to defeat Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo of Spain 7-6 (3) 7-5 7-6 (1) to reach the second round. Andy Murray stormed past Nikolay Davydenko on Centre Court with a 6-1 6-1 6-4 win against the Russain. Indian tennis star Sania Mirza who was awarded a wild card for London Olympics also moved into the second round of Wimbledon as she and her partner B.Mattek-Sands defeated A.Kudryavtseva and S.Stephens in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Fifth-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who outclassed six-time champion Federer in 2011 to reach the semifinals, defeated Lleyton Hewitt, 6-3 6-4 6-4. After her sister Venus Williams surprisingly crashed out of the championship in the first round, four-time Wimbledon winner Serena Williams began her campaign on a confident note as she defeated Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic 6-2 6-4.
