Five persons were killed on Saturday and seven others injured when a blast triggered by a suspected gas leak took place in a ship being dismantled at the Alang ship-breaking yard in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat.
A team of United Nations (UN)
human rights officers on Sunday inspected various sites at
the Alang ship-breaking yard here to assess the working
conditions and facilities, officials of the Gujarat Pollution
Control Board said.

assess various issues concerning the human rights of workers
engaged in the ship-breaking industry at Alang, Gujarat
Pollution Control Board (GPCB) officials said here on Saturday.
An inquiry has been ordered
into reports that an allegedly radioactive contaminated ship
from the United States has anchored at the ship-breaking yards
of Alang in Gujarat, the government said on Wednesday.
Union Ministry of Environment & Forests has sought details from the Gujarat Pollution Control Board and Gujarat Maritime Board on a ship that has come for dismantling at Alang which is allegedly carrying hazardous toxic substance.
