Concerned over rising river pollution, sadhus of various orders are now seeking departure from tradition as they want adequate land to bury their dead.
Notwithstanding the Amarnath
shrine board`s decision to commence the annual pilgrimage to
the holy cave from June 29, a group of sadhus today announced
that they will embark on the yatra from June 15.
Nearly 60L pilgrims took a holy dip in river Ganges on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya.
Some sat on gold and silver thrones balanced atop elephants, some stood tall on horse-driven chariots, and yet others walked to din of drums, bells and conches. Peshwai, the royal procession of Naga sadhus was a grand affair.
