The escalating war of words between Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) central government just got hotter.
Parrikar said a decision on the mining leases would be taken soon, after following the process of natural justice and getting the opinion of the firm operating the mining lease on record.
Goa is the largest exporter of iron ore in the country with around 54 million metric ton of ore being exported from both ports.
Twenty-six miners were trapped on August 23 when workers broke through into an adjacent flooded pit.
Nineteen out of the 100 odd operational mines in Goa have been ordered to be shut down by the state`s top pollution control authority for functioning in the absence of the mandatory permissions.
