Announcing that a few more leaders will be suspended for working against the party`s interest, Goa Congress President John Fernandes on Monday claimed some "corrupt" elements were out to dislodge him from his post.
The Goa unit of the Congress Sunday accused a local English daily of indulging in "paid news", and said a front page story on the sacking of state party president John Fernandes was "totally baseless".
In an indication that they are in no hurry to fall in line and may continue with their defiance, four senior Congress leaders in Goa, facing inquiry for alleged anti-party activities during the Lok Sabha polls, did not turn up before a party disciplinary panel.
The Congress party in Goa will form a disciplinary action committee to probe the allegations of anti-party activities against some of its state leaders, including a senior legislator, during the Lok Sabha campaign.
Even as the police sought
custodial interrogation of politician John Fernandes, accused
in a Russian girl`s rape case, a local court on Monday postponed
for tomorrow the order on his anticipatory bail petition.
