India has said it is committed to implementing the highest safety standards at its nuclear power plants as it seeks to harness the benefits of atomic energy to meet its growing energy requirements.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
on Sunday said that nuclear energy will play an important role in
India`s quest for clean and environment-friendly energy, but
stressed on meeting "highest safety standards" in its use.
A bill to facilitate setting up of
an independent body to put in place safety provisions for
national highways and improved safety standards in road
designs was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
