'Pehredaar Piya Ki' in trouble over 'objectionable' content, angry viewers start online petition against it

Indian television has produced several path-breaking dramas, but of late the content of many daily soaps has been tagged 'regressive' and repetitive. One such television show which has been in news ever since its promos were released, happens to be 'Pehredaar Piya Ki'.

New Delhi: Indian television has produced several path-breaking dramas, but of late the content of many daily soaps has been tagged 'regressive' and repetitive. One such television show which has been in news ever since its promos were released, happens to be 'Pehredaar Piya Ki'.

It has a storyline revolving the life of an 18-year-old girl getting married to a young boy of 9 and how their relationship unfolds. The content of the show has come under scanner where a lot of people have expressed their displeasure over it.

According to Hindustan Times, angry protestors and fans have even started an online petition seeking to stop airing the show. The report mentions that the petition has been posted by Mansi Jain on Change.org and over 74,000 people have already shown their support to it.

The petition reads, “Pehredar piya ki. - A 10-year-old impressionable little kid(” piyaa”) caressing and stalking a lady who’s more than double his age and filling sindoor in her “maang” is being telecasted at prime time -8:30pm on sony. (Family time) It is to be devoured by the entire Nation. Imagine the kind of influence it will steadily and perpetually infuse in the viewers mindset. We want a ban on the serial. We do not want our kids to be influenced by such tv serials. Join us in signing the petition to ban this serial.”

The petition will be sent to Smriti Zubin Irani, Cabinet Minister of Textiles and Information and Broadcasting.
