As 2011 bids adieu, let’s take a look back at the events that shaped India during the year gone by. Be it the change of guard in several states, including coming to power of two women leaders – Mamata Banerjee and J Jayalalithaa and uprooting of the Left rule in West Bengal or going to jail of several top leaders in the 2G scam, including A Raja and Kanimozhi, the year would be remembered as an eventful one. Not to forget the Lokpal campaign of Anna Hazare, which, if nothing else, proved the Indian democracy was alive and kicking.
Let’s undertake the journey…

Be it the Arab uprising that took the Middle East by storm and toppled dictators like a pack of cards, or the March earthquake-tsunami that unleashed death and destruction in Japan, the year 2011 would be remembered as one of the most crucial in the history of present day world. The perfect commemoration of 10th anniversary of 9/11 attacks happened in the form of Osama’s death, and led to the public spat between US and Pakistan. If Gaddafi, Mubarak and others had to leave by force, North Korea’s Kim Jong Il departed on his own. To put it simply, 2011 would be remembered for the events that changed the geography, demography, economy and politics of the world.
