Former Odisha Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik was admitted to a private hospital here on Sunday after he complained of dehydration. 

BJD vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra revealed that the party's decision for a bandh came after consultations with party president and Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik.   

Shortly after submitting his resignation, Sujit Kumar formally joined the BJP, signalling his shift to the national ruling party.  

The shadow cabinet members are primarily former ministers from the BJD’s government. They are tasked with scrutinising each minister and their department and showing active participation in the related discussions.

The five-term chief minister reiterated that Pandian was not his successor and that the people of Odisha would decide who his successor would be.

As Patnaik has submitted his resignation papers to step down from the Chief Minister's post, all eyes are now on the BJP to announce Odisha’s first BJP CM.

The people of Puri constituency will vote in six phases on May 25, while the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has put its bet on Arup Patnaik, replacing sitting MP Pinaki Mishra.

He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998 from Cuttack. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014. He retained the seat for BJD in 2019.

Coming together of the BJP and the BJD would result in a stronger alliance in Odisha which has 147 assembly seats and 21 Lok Sabha seats. 

In a blistering attack on the Congress, the PM said before 2014, the main opposition party and its allies were only interested in filling their coffers.

Participating in the debate on the no-confidence vote in Lok Sabha, Biju Janata Dal MP Pinaki Misra said it is out of the question for the BJD to support any motion brought by the Congress.

The couple applied at the marriage registrar's office on May 17. Though the woman along with her family reached there for the wedding formalities on Friday after the stipulated 30 days, the MLA failed to turn up, as per news agency PTI.
