The roots of India-Russia trade date back centuries, and today the partnership spans defense, energy and technology.

According to Russian state media, 10 intergovernmental documents and more than 15 agreements and memorandums between commercial and non-commercial entities of both countries are being prepared for signing.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "In July, when our Prime Minister travelled to Russia, he also took up the matter with President Putin. And since the Prime Minister's visit, 35 Indian nationals have been discharged. Prior to July, his visit, 10 Indian nationals had been discharged. So 45 Indian nationals have been discharged so far."

Following recent remarks by top American diplomat Donald Lu expressing disappointment over Prime Minister Modi's visit to Russia, Washington has been having "tough conversations" with New Delhi.

EAM S Jaishankar said that PM Modi had sent a letter to Putin expressing thoughts on the state of cooperation and recent progress between India and Russia.
