‘Kisan Rail’ services may be expanded in Union Budget 2021 to reach farmers

The Centre is likely to announce an expansion of the 'Kisan Railway' Scheme. The first ‘Kisan Rail' was introduced from Devlali to Danapur on 7th August, 2020. The 100th ‘Kisan Rail’ from Sangola in Maharashtra to Shalimar in West Bengal was flagged off on 28th December 2020.

PM Narendra Modi to flag off 100th Kisan Rail on December 28

PM Modi will flag off the 100th 'Kisan Rail' at 4:30 PM via video conferencing. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal will also be present on the occasion. The multi-commodity train service will carry vegetables such as cauliflower, capsicum, cabbage, drumsticks, chillies, onion, etc.

FM Sitharaman had announced in May that 'Operation Green' will be expanded with an additional fund of Rs 500 crore and extended from tomatoes, onions and potatoes to all fruits and vegetables The Ministry of Food Processing Industries will initially provide Rs 10 crore to operate the scheme, which will be deposited with the South Central Railway zone The Centre had announced plans of starting special parcel trains called 'Kisan Rail' in the Budget for this financial year

First 'Kisan Rail' carrying 332 tonnes of vegetables and fruits reaches Delhi

The train was flagged off by Union Minister for Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday via a video link from New Delhi and Amaravati. The rakewas loaded with 14 parcel vans – 4 vans load meant for Nagpur and another 10 Vans load for Adarsh Nagar – totaling 332 tonnes. The train provides fast transport connectivity between Anantapur to New Delhi as it covers a distance of 2150 Km in approximately 40 hours.

India's first 'Kisan Rail' was flagged off from Maharashtra's Deolali The train was flagged off by Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Piyush Goyal 'Kisan Rail' is a weekly service that will depart from Deolali every Friday at 11 AM and reach Danapur the next day at 6.45 PM The train will cover a distance of 1,519 kms in 31.45 hours on a single trip
