BJP writes to President, demands action against Dikshit

New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday wrote to President Pranab Mukherjee demanding action against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for allegedly misrepresenting facts about the completion of 60,000 low-cost flats ahead of the 2008 Assembly polls. The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in the two-page letter, accused Dikshit of misleading 50 lakh residents of Delhi`s various unauthorised colonies promising to regularise those once the Congress was voted to power in the 2008 elections. The party said Dikshit was aware of the Supreme Court`s order against regularising a colony which did not have basic civic amenities but still went ahead and gave provisional certificates to its residents. "These certificates were issued in 2008 and assurances were given that the colonies would be regularised. The Congress lied to the people," said Harsh Vardhan, the BJP`s chief ministerial candidate for Delhi. "The President should direct Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh) and the home ministry to take punitive action against her," he added. Harsh Vardhan earlier filed a case with the Delhi Lokayukta against Dikshit for misusing her position and influencing the voters by publicly advertising that the government had built low-cost houses for the poor. The Lokayukta July 18, 2011, sent a report to the Lt. Governor, who sent it to the president, recommending the issuance of caution against Dikshit and advising her to be more careful while issuing statements for publication.
