Gang-raped girl dies of burn injuries in hospital

The 20-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and set afire by a youth in Desarmau village in Ekdil area.

Etawah: The 20-year-old girl, who was allegedly gang-raped and set afire by a youth in Desarmau village in Ekdil area, died during treatment at a hospital here, officials said here.

The girl died last night, they said. The victim was undergoing treatment at the hospital in Saifai after she was allegedly gang-raped and set afire by the youth, who was pressurising her to marry and his associates, on July 11. According to the FIR lodged by the victim`s brother, Farman and his five associates raped the girl and then set ablaze her. Infuriated over the incident, the locals had tried to set Farman`s house ablaze but the elders in the village mediated and brought the situation under control. PTI
