Chhattisgarh Assembly Election results 2013: As it happened

Zee Media Bureau Raipur: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday managed to win an absolute majority in Chhattisgarh in the 2013 Assembly elections.

The BJP has bagged 49 seats which translates into a third term for Dr Raman Singh on the Chief Minister`s chair. Congress managed to win 39 seats, one went to the Bahujan Samaj Party and an Independent candidate has emerged victorious. Chhattisgarh Congress chief Charandas Mahant has blamed his party`s loss on "internal sabotage." "This is democracy and we consider it our bad luck that our big leaders about whose victories we were sure had to face defeats. It also indicates some internal sabotage. However we will do analysis," he added.

Of the 12 seats in the Naxal-infested Bastar region, Congress wrested eight seats from BJP.

Slain Chhattisgarh PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel`s son Umesh has won Kharsia constituency defeating BJP`s Jawaharlal Naik by a margin of 38,888 votes.

Congress Baghel Lakheshwar has won Naxal-affected Bastar constituency defeating his BJP rival Subhaoo Kashyap by 19,168 votes.

Devti Karma, wife of slain Congress leader Mahendra Karma, wins from Dantewada by defeating her nearest rival Bheema Mandavi of BJP by 5,987 votes.

In the trends tally at 9.15 pm, the BJP has won or is leading on 49 seats and the Congress on 39 seats in the 90-member Assembly. The Others are leading in two seats.

In the trends tally at 7:00 pm, the BJP has won or is leading on 48 seats and the Congress on 39 seats in the 90-member Assembly. The Others are leading in three seats.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi congratulated opponents for winning the elections in other states. However, she added that she is still rather hopeful of winning Chhattisgarh.

Kawasi Lakhma of Congress retains Konta seat defeating BJP`s Dhani Ram Barse by a margin of 5,786 votes.

BJP`s Santosh Bafna defeats Shamu Kashyap of Congress by a margin of 16,658 votes in Naxal-hit Jagdalpur constituency.

In the trends tally at 4:20 pm, the BJP is leading on 44 seats while the Congress is ahead on 43 in the 90-member Assembly. The Others are leading in three seats.

At 3:57 pm, BJP is leading in 45 and Congress in 43 seats.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh defeats Congress` Alka Mudaliyar in Rajnandgaon constituency by 35,866 votes.

The Congress put up a spirited show in Chhattisgarh where it appeared at one stage to be edging past the Raman Singh-led BJP after being in the opposition for a decade. At 3:00 pm, the BJP is leading in 48 seats and Congress in 42.

BJP is still ahead in 47 seats and Congress in 43 as per trends available at 2:15 pm.

At 1:40 pm, the BJP is ahead in 48 of the 90 Assembly seats, with the Congress is in the lead in 41 and Others in one constituency.

The BJP is now on the winning track in 44 of the 90 Assembly seats, with the Congress in the lead in 42 and Others in four constituencies.

Congress` Lakheshwar Baghel wins from Bastar with 33,038 votes.

Congress is leading in 46 seats and the BJP in 42 at 12:40 pm.

At 12:05 pm, Congress is leading in 50 seats and the BJP in 38. Others are ahead in two seats.

As per trends available at 11:57 am, Congress is ahead in 48 seats, BJP in 40 and Others in two seats.

Congress is ahead in 44 seats and the BJP in 38, as per trends at 11:50 am.

Congress` Amit Jogi, BJP`s Ramvichar Netam and Brijmohan Agarwal are leading.

Chhattisgarh CM Dr Raman Singh is leading with 4,009 votes in Rajnandgaon seat.

Trends at 11:30 am show that Congress is leading in 42 seats and BJP in 37 seats.

At 11:05 am, Congress and BJP are ahead in 36 seats each.

The BJP is able to edge past in 32 seats against the Congress` 30 at 10:53 am.

As per trends at 10:42 am, the opposition Congress is giving a tough fight to the ruling BJP. The Congress is leading in 29 seats and the BJP in 28.

The BJP and the Congress are in a neck-and-neck race for power in Chhattisgarh. With early leads available from 50 of the 90 seats, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and a spirited Congress are leading in 27 and 23 constituencies respectively at 10:23 am.

The opposition Congress is leading in 20 of the 33 seats for which trends were available at 9:40 am as counting is underway of the votes cast in the elections for the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly. The ruling BJP is leading in 13 seats.

The opposition Congress is leading in 24 of the 47 seats for which trends were available at 10:04 am. The BJP is leading in 23 seats.

At 9:29 am, the trends indicate Congress is leading in 11 seats, BJP in nine and Others in one.

As per trends at 9:10 am for 14 out of 90 seats - BJP is ahead in eight, Congress in five and Others in one seat respectively.
