Lauriya falls in the Paschim Champaran district and is a part of the Valmiki Nagar parliamentary (Lok Sabha) constituency of Bihar. As per the Delimitation Commission of India of 2008, the areas covered by the constituency are Yogapatti community development block; and Siswania, Kataiya, Marahiya Pakari, Mathia, Lauriya, Belwa Lakhanpur, Gobaraura, Bahuarwa, Dhobani Dharampur, Dhamaura, Daniyal Prasauna, Sathi, Singhpur Satawaria, Basantpur and Baswariya Parautola gram panchayats of Lauriya community development block. The constituency is inhibited by a total of 2,08,165 eligible voters, out of which 1,13,658 are males and 94,503 are female. In the assembly elections of November 2010, independent candidate Vinay Bihari won the seat with 38,381 votes as compared to 27,500 votes of Pradeep Singh of JD (U). Nationalist Congress Party's Pradeep Singh, Rashtriya Janata Dal's Ran Kaushal Pratap Singh, Communist Party Of India's Ram Babu Kumar Sankritya, Bharatiya Janata Party's Vinay Bihari, Bahujan Samaj Party's Sunil Kumar, Shiv Sena's Ajay Kumar Thakur and others are locked in an intense electoral battle here.
