New Delhi: Bollywood glamdoll Deepika Padukone looked stunning as she sashayed down the ramp at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WLIFW) Autumn-Winter 2010 here. The actress became the showstopper for designers G Pia Fleming and Namrata Joshipura as they showcased their collections on the fourth day of the fashion extravaganza. "I haven’t walked the ramp for a couple of years now and today I feel I have come back where I had started from," said Deepika before taking to the ramp at the event. Fleming's collection mainly comprised of evening gowns, in the palette of whites, greys and off-whites, was inspired by the Broadway musicals of New York. And Dips looked very graceful in a cream-coloured gown designed by Fleming. "I think both their collections were completely different. Pia's was a lot more floral, lot more girly. Even in terms of colour, I think there were more pastel shades, whites, grey and off-white. Even the mood of the show was a lot more dreamy and musical," said Padukone. On the other hand, designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh's collection was based on the post-American modernism. Kirans showcased her designs with models depicting abstract artwork of that era. "It was actually based on post-American modernism. It is called abstract-expressionistic art. It took weighing in America in the post World War-II, which was in the late 1940s and flourished in early 1960s and it was just abstract art. You have a canvas, you take what you want to do with it and actually put New York on the map of the art world, which till now existed only in Paris. So that is what inspired me. That's when I looked into the few pictures of modern art from that period, which just inspired me," said Ghosh. The WLIFW-AW 2010, hosted by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), will witness the participation of 130 designers, 75 of them also presenting shows and among whom 19 are debutants. Meanwhile, designers Abhi-Rahul, Chandrani Siingh Fllora, Debarun , Jaya Rathore, Soltee by Sulaksha Monga, Zurkhe by Rajdeep Ranawat & Naresh Chauhan rocked the fourth day of the starry-glitzy fashionable evening. Some of the other designers presenting on the day were Charu Parashar, Preeti S Kapoor, Risa Abhijeet Khanna, Puja Arya, Sanskar by Sonam Dubal, Taika by Poonam Bhagat, Mynah’s Reynu Taandon, Niki Mahajan, Abraham & Thakore and Lecoanet Hemant. The highlight of the day was designer duo Abraham & Thakore, who showcased an interpretation of traditional clothing to create a modern fashion statement for an urbane Indian wardrobe. Their creations appeared to be playing with shape and proportion and juxtaposing somewhat unexpected elements. Also, Lacoanet Hemant gave a very earthy feel to the show as he showcased he flaunted organic cotton poplin, khadi, wild and handloom silk with drapes and flowing necklines in his creations.
