When Finnish phone maker Nokia signed a takeover deal with US tech giant Microsoft Corp and decided to use the latter’s operating system, Windows, on its Lumia series Smartphone, many fans and critics wandered and questioned the decision.
The USD 7.5 billion deal has perhaps put the phone maker back in the game of smartphones.
There is no denying that Samsung and Apple have overtaken the Smartphone market. However, Nokia is definitely holding on its own. BlackBerry is trying hard to revive itself considering that it was once the king of Smartphone market until it was dethroned by the South Korean and American companies.
In its fight to hold on in the market, Nokia came up with the Lumia series with Windows as the operating system. And today, Windows Phones are one of the best phones in the market giving a tough fight to Android phones.
And of all the Lumia series, it is the youngest of them all, the Lumia 520, that is ruling the Windows Phone market and putting in a fight for the Finnish company against the giants.
The entry level Windows phone has been hailed by fans and critics alike.
Recently, a Windows Phone report by AdDuplex for November 2013 stated Nokia Lumia 520 as the most popular Windows Phone market in India and in the world as well. The youngest of the Lumia phone got a whopping 43.3 percent the market share to be declared the top position in India.
Globally too, Nokia Lumia 520 is the most popular Windows Phone with 26.5 percent of the market share.
Interestingly, the report also hailed Nokia as the leader of Windows Phone market in India and in the world as well.
It is not surprising that Nokia Lumia 520 is one of the most popular phones in the market considering the budget phone has such technical specifications.
Some of the specifications that Nokia Lumia 520 boasts of are:
Display: 4-inch IPS LCD (480x800 pixels) with 233 ppi pixel density. It also has a scratch-resistant glass.
Operating System: Windows 8, Microsoft’s OS that is smooth, fast and can carry out heavy duty.
Processor: 1GHz dual-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor
RAM: 512MB. Only 512MB, some might question. However, the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor makes up for the speed. It is ‘Do more, wait less’ as Nokia says.
Memory: 8GB internal storage which comes along with 7GB of free cloud storage. Not many budget phones have so much of internal storage. Moreover, the memory can be expanded to 62GB via microSD card.
Camera: 5MP back camera. Though the phone lacks front camera and a flash, how much can one really expect from a budget phone under Rs 10,000? Besides, it can also record a high definition video as of 720p at 30fps.
Battery: With a Li-Ion 1430 mAh battery, Lumia 520 gives a talktime of almost 15 hours on 2G and about 10 hours on 3G. It supports upto 60 hours of continuous music play. Moreover, the battery has been given an endurance rating of 49 hours.
While these are some of the specifications, some would questioned why no flash or secondary camera. However, how much do one really expect from a budget Smartphone? Besides, it has the Nokia brand in it.
Upon release earlier in 2013, Nokia Lumia 520 was available for Rs 10,499/. However, it is available today for as low as Rs 7,599 on some retail sites.
Considering that it is available at such low budget and comes in five different colours with great specifications, the Nokia Lumia 520 has been rightly hailed at the most affordable Windows Phone.
