New Delhi: Global eCommerce giant Amazon has launched new Kindle 'Oasis', equipped with a longer battery life and weighs 20 percent less than the previous generations, for Rs 23,999.
The eighth-generation of the popular e-reader is available for pre-order in India and will start shipping in the coming weeks.
"To lean back and read for hours, you need a sanctuary from distraction. We want Kindle to disappear, and Kindle Oasis is the next big step in that mission," Amazon.Com Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement.
He further said this is the "most advanced Kindle" the company has ever built.
Oasis is 30 percent thinner on average and over 20 percent lighter than any other Kindle, the statement said.
The device comes with dual-battery charging system -- one in the e-reader and another in its cover -- which lets one read for months without charging the device again.
Oasis also comes with a new design to enable one-handed reading.
Other products in the Kindle family include Kindle (Rs 5,999), Kindle Paperwhite (Rs 10,999) and Kindle Voyage (Rs 16,499).
Kindle users get access to over 3 million books with more than 8 lakh exclusives. Amazon also offers access to over one million books in India for Rs 150 a month.
