Bangalore: Auto major Tata Motors Wednesday said it has gained substantial market share in medium and heavy truck market, despite slowdown.
"The current economic situation of India is not very good, as our industry is linked directly.... There is one to one correlation between construction GDP and sale of our construction vehicle... In that terms industry is down we are also down," Tata Motors Head (Sales and Marketing) Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles Vinod Sahay told reporters here.
He said: "The good thing for Tata Motors is we have gained substantial market share this year, for Tata ConsTruck we have gained 6 percent of market share in this financial during the first half compared to last year- same period, and over all for medium and heavy trucks also we have gained 2 percent market share...."
Stating that Indian industry has gone through transition in last couple of years especially in terms of competitiveness, he said "....In spite of that we have been able to maintain overall market share of 64-65 percent, which has been our market share for last couple of years or so."
"...For total medium and heavy trucks our market share was around 63 percent last year, which is now 65 percent," he added.
To a question on sales without divulging details, he said: "We are averaging at around 6,000 vehicles a month." Sahay said "The company sells around 150 to 200 medium and heavy truck vehicles in current times, in Karnataka."
Answering a question about decline in sales due to mining restrictions in the state, he said "it is about 50 percent, we used to sell anywhere about 200 Tippers when mining thing was on, and right now it is about 100 or so."
To a question on exports, he said "exports are also affected to some extent because global economy is also not doing very well, but yes contribution of exports has gone up in our overall share because their drop is not as much as India has shown."
The company Wednesday showcased six new high powered construction vehicles from its ConsTruck range of commercial vehicles at the EXCON 2013 exhibition.
