Lara Bingle’s community service commitments

Melbourne, June 07: Lara Bingle, the fiancée of Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke, has revealed that she failed to attend a pre-Ashes camp for cricketers` wives and girlfriends because she had been filming a community service announcement for Bowel Cancer Australia.

Bingle, who is the charity`s new ambassador, said her involvement with Bowel Cancer Australia’s Love My Family campaign was part of a covenant she had made with her father Graham before he died of bowel cancer last year. "It`s been just over a year, and I feel it`s OK now to talk about it. But it`s definitely hard, and I do get upset quite a lot," a news daily quoted her as saying. The commercial features the tattoo on Bingle`s right wrist that reads: "Wish you were here", which she got after Graham died. "I got it a few months after he passed away, and it really hurt - but I remembered what he had gone through and couldn`t complain," Bingle said. "I`m not really into tattoos normally, but this is part of my history and I am happy to share it in the (advertising) campaign," she added. It was during the campaign`s production in May that Bingle was criticised for not attending a counselling seminar on the Sunshine Coast. "I want to be full-on working with Bowel Cancer Australia for the rest of my life. I watched Dad get more and more sick, and I don`t have a hard life at all,” she said. "I`m not trying to save lives. I`m there to help and raise awareness, and I think I will be a good help," she added. ANI
