Punjab police pull up rapper Honey Singh for vulgar lyrics

Delhi: Acting as per the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Nawanshahr police station on Friday booked rapper Honey Singh on account of the vulgar lyrics of his songs. On May 14, Tuesday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had ordered the government of Punjab to file a case against the rapper. A notice had been issued to Honey Singh on an earlier date of hearing, but the rapper was not present in the court to take cognizance of the same. According to the court, the songs of Honey Singh were meant to be boycotted as they “make us hang our heads in shame”. Shortly after the December 16 gang-rape in Delhi, rapper Honey Singh had to face the ire of certain areas which slammed the song ‘Main hoon balatkari’ (I am a rapist), the lyrics of which had allegedly been penned by him. However, Singh, during that time, had said that he hadn’t written the song and that he was being used as ‘a scapegoat’. On May 16, a case was registered against the singer under provisions of Section 294 (singing, reciting or uttering any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place) of the Indian Penal Code in Punjab`s Nawanshahr town, some 80 km from Chandigarh, a police official said.
