Mumbai: Multi talented Farhan Akhtar is going to play a cricketer in his next film and is all set to take lessons for it.
After playing a musician in ‘Rock On’, the actor-director will now be playing a cricketer in Abhishek Kapoor`s upcoming untitled film.
The film is based on Chetan Bhagat`s book, ‘3 Mistakes Of My Life’ and Farhan’s character is similar to Aamir Khan’s characters in ‘Lagaan’ and ‘3 Idiots’.
Farhan who is a cricket enthusiast plans to take cricket lessons from a professional coach.
Speaking to a daily, a source revealed, "Like Aamir in ‘Lagaan’, Farhan plays a cricketer and a patriot. While, he doesn`t need lessons in patriotism, he sure needs to be taught the nuances of cricket."
As for the similarity with ‘3 Idiots’, the source said, "Both novels ‘Five Point Someone’ (on which 3 Idiots was based) and ‘The 3 Mistakes Of My Life’ are about the journey of three friends. Both films have a character who forms the moral backbone of the plot. Aamir`s character, Rancho in ‘3 Idiots’ is akin to Ishaan, the character that Farhan will play."
Initially, Farhan was only going to produce the film and their were talks about casting three new comers in the film, but Farhan showed eagerness to play the role of Ishaan and now the hunt is on for the other two characters.
"Farhan`s company is producing the film and he expressed a keenness to be part of the project. Newcomers can`t play Farhan`s friends,” added the source.
Akhtar has not chosen the main protagonist`s part. The role of Govind, will have to be played by a young Gujarati actor.
Said the source, "Farhan chose Ishaan`s role because he wanted to play the cricketer`s part."
Farhan had previously taken singing lessons for his role in ‘Rock On’ and we all know that he did a marvelous job in that film. Let’s hope vigorous cricket lessons pays off and the character of Ishan clicks with the audience.
