Pistol used by Varsha belonged to Asha Bhosle

New reports suggest that Varsha Bhosle may have used her mother, Asha Bhosle’s ‘misplaced’ pistol to shoot herself, at her house in Peddar Road on Monday afternoon.

Zeenews Bureau
Mumbai: Varsha, daughter of veteran singer Asha Bhosle, had used her mother’s ‘misplaced’ pistol to shoot herself, at her house in Peddar Road on Monday afternoon.
The pistol had apparently got misplaced some 30-35 years ago. A tabloid quoted Asha as saying to the police, "Varsha was depressed owing to her loneliness and she had also distanced herself from everyone in the past one year. Varsha was being treated for depression, acute pain in her leg and diabetes. Lately, she seemed disconnected from the outside world. She had even stopped using her cell phone." "The pistol that Varsha used to shoot herself is registered in my name. It is very old and it had been lost. We don't know how Varsha got her hands on it," Asha added. Till late on Tuesday, the police were investigating whether the pistol belonged to Varsha or someone else. The police would also question Varsha’s former husband regarding the weapon and whether he had a license to own a firearm. The DNA reported that Varsha’s older sibling, Anand Bhosle, who also owns a pistol, was expected to be questioned on whether he owned more than one firearm- of which he had no permit. Meanwhile, the Mangeshkar and Bhosle families will be questioned by the police, including singers Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar later in the week. According to sources, Varsha suffered from depression soon after her divorce in 1998. Her condition reportedly deteriorated following close friend, ace photographer Gautam Rajyadaksh’s death. “She lost the enthusiasm for life and started staying all by herself,” a close friend of Varsha told the police.
