London: Indian-origin actress Shobna Gulati, who stars in `Coronation Street`, has quit micro-blogging site Twitter after receiving racist messages.
The 44-year-old star was bombarded with hate messages over the past couple of weeks after she built up 18,467 followers and her departure from the social networking site comes a week after she expressed shock at receiving such abuse, reported Daily Mail. Referring to her followers as "Tweet ta di do das" last week, the Gulati said, "Errrrr twitter abuse? Not bothered really just surprised at the racial abuse and desire to try and hurt people for no reason." "Thanks for the support tweet ta di do das. I think I`m giving twitter a wee rest... gobsmacked," she added. Gulati, who plays Sunita Alahan in the ITV1 soap, finally left the site this week, and bade farewell to her loyal fans. "Tweet ta di do das thanks for the follows. Thanks for the banter. I`ve enjoyed my time on twitter. Over and out," tweeted Gulati. The actress is a vocal anti-racism campaigner and recently worked with groups of young people in Oldham, Manchester. PTI
