Connery to appear before Spanish judge over `money-laundering’ scam

Sean Connery and his wife are being investigated for alleged financial irregularities relating to property he once owned on the Costa del Sol.

London: Scottish actor Sean Connery and his wife are being investigated for alleged financial irregularities relating to property he once owned on the Costa del Sol. Connery and French artist wife, Micheline Roquebrune will be questioned before a judge in Spain for a property scandal in Marbella, Spain.
The couple had bought a beachfront mansion, Casa Malibu, near Puerto Banus, after their wedding in 1975 where they indulged in their love of golf in between his film projects, reports The Telegraph. The home was sold in 1999 for a reported 9 million dollars and a developer later used the site to build a four-storey block containing 72 holiday apartments. According to sources cited in Spanish daily El Mundo, the National Police seized 30,000 documents in the raids carried out on the Marbella and Madrid offices of law firm Diaz-Bastien & Truan, which handled the sale. The raid operation was termed ‘Goldfinger’, after Connery’s 007 film of 1964. Now, the James Bond star and wife are being investigated for planning abuses, embezzlement, money laundering and tax evasion. ANI
