New Delhi: On Day 5 of the ongoing WIFW Autumn/Winter 2010 in the capital, renowned fashion designer duo Hemant and Nandita dedicated their collection to the cause of animal rights. Their collection, which mainly comprised of velvet, synthetic fibres and imitation leather in versatile silhouettes, became highlight of the day as it clearly supported PETA`s global fight against the use of leather. "Non usage of leather was on our minds but then we met Ambika Shukla from PETA who strengthened our belief. I know leather is very popular in winters but even if the message gets across to five people, I will think we have made a difference," Nandita told reporters. On the other hand, designer Nandita Mahtani too showcased her collection in style but without any Bollywood superstar as showstopper, despite the fact that she known to have dressed the likes of Salman Khan, Arjun Rampal and Katrina Kaif and her Hollywood clientele includes A-listers like Madonna, Claudia Schiffer and Beyonce. However, her rumoured ex-flame Dino Morea could be seen cheering for Mahtani at the event. "I was both excited and nervous to come here. This collection did not require anyone from some Bollywood that`s why I did not had any celebrity walking the ramp from me," Nandita told reporters after the show. Nandita`s evening-wear resort line for women of all ages had fabrics like georgette, chiffon, lycra and knit mixing Bandhani with butterflies which is also the designer`s logo. And of course, the Grand Finale show by designer Rajesh Pratap Singh was the highlight of the day. His collection interestingly combined originality and simplicity. “Basically, I don’t work with inspirations. There are constant ongoing experiments. My works reflect a compilation over a period of time. Show inspiration is a dream and also a marketing tool. At the end of the day we are basically tailors who do our job,” the designer said. On the whole, Rajesh brought the perfect finale to a controversy-stricken WIFW.
