Sensex dips below 28,000-mark, Nifty under 8,700-level

New Delhi: The benchmark BSE Sensex dipped below the key 28,000-mark in early trade Friday after sentiment was dampened by Reliance Industries' second quarter earnings numbers, which were announced yesterday.

The 30-share index, which had gained 145.47 points in the previous session, dropped by 121.35 points, or 0.43 percent, at 28,008.49. The Sensex touched a high of 28,163.41 and a low of 27,990.69 in the trade so far.

Similarly, the NSE Nifty last quoted lower by 36.05 points, or 0.41 percent, to 8,663.35.

RIL shares fell 1.73 percent to Rs 1,069.65 in early trade after the consolidated net profit in July-September came in at Rs 7,206 crore, 22.9 percent lower than Rs 9,345 crore in the same period a year ago.

In Asia, Japan's Nikkei rose 0.29 per cent while Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.20 percent in early trade. Hong Kong's financial markets are closed Friday morning due to a typhoon. The afternoon trading session will also be cancelled if the storm signal remains up at noon.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended 0.22 percent lower in yesterday's trade.
