London: Singer Pete Doherty has been charged with possession of cocaine after the death of Goldsmith heiress Robin Whitehead from a suspected drugs overdose.
The 27-year old cousin of socialite Jemima Khan, spent the last ten days of her life filming a documentary about the drug-addled rock star before she died earlier this year.
Yesterday Doherty`s best friend, Pete Wolfe was charged with supplying cocaine in connection with the death of the Goldsmith dynasty heiress, while the `Libertine` star was charged with possession of the class A drug, reported Daily Mail online.
Wolfe, 42, could face life in prison if found guilty of providing the drug that caused Whitehead`s death. He originally insisted that they had not taken anything illegal and had been drinking nothing stronger than Twinings tea together before she died.
But Wolfe, who dialled 999 after finding her body on January 24 this year, later told police that hours before her death, the society beauty had been drinking alcohol and had taken Valium, a potentially dangerous combination.
The daughter of 1960s film-maker Peter Whitehead and Dido Goldsmith had been staying with Wolfe for a few days. Dubbed a "superfan", she had been working closely with Doherty on the film about the controversial figure notorious for his decadent lifestyle and relationship with supermodel Kate Moss.
Her body was found by paramedics answering a 999 call at an East London flat rented by Wolfe. Drugs paraphernalia was found in the flat.
`Babyshambles` frontman Doherty had visited the flat both the day before and the day after the tragedy. It has been claimed the former Libertines singer attended a party at the flat in Hackney the night before her death.
