Mumbai: Bollywood actor Salman Khan is once again in news for the wrong reasons. This time around, the actor reportedly bought land belonging to villagers in an illegal sale.
Vaje village near Panvel is putting up a tough fight for 83 acres of surplus land they were granted by the government to be tilled. The Panchand the villagers were the joint custodians of the land till it was sold off to a Congress leader and Salman Khan.
Apparently, villagers allege that they were cheated into parting with their land by the Panch. Talking to a daily, Vishnu Patil, a local resident of the village said, “The government gave the land to poor farmers for cultivation. Sometime back our Panch told us that government was planning to take the land back and in order to meet the expenses of putting up a fight, we need to sell a part of the land. Recently we found out that 2.5 acres of the land had been sold to actor Salman Khan without even seeking any clearance from us, which is mandatory. Nobody knows where the money went.”
In fact, the remaining 81 acres of the land were sold off in the same fashion. For now, the villagers have filed complaints with Collector of Raigadh district, who has ordered a fresh inquiry into the alleged transactions.
However, when contacted, Salman and his father Salim Khan were unavailable for comment.
