The separation of British actress Kate Winslet and her filmmaker husband Sam Mendes came as a surprise in March because they have been considered an ideal show business couple for many years.
Winslet, 34, married the successful British filmmaker and stage director in a Caribbean wedding in 2003. They have a six-year old son, Joe, while Winslet has a daughter, Mia, from her first marriage to film director Jim Threapleton.
A statement by London law firm Schilling said: "Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year." It further said that the split was "entirely amicable and by mutual agreement" and both parties were fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.

According to sources close to the 26-year-old singer, Winehouse has told Fielder-Civil, 31, that their relationship is over and she does not want him to move into her new home in Camden, North London.
"It looks like the end of the road for Amy and Blake. She has told him she has fallen out of love with him. She is waiting to move into her new house and she has made it clear Blake will not be moving in with her," said sources.
The couple married in 2007 but divorced last year. They rekindled their relationship just weeks later and there was even talk that they planned to remarry.
